Sanjay Khan was born in a Muslim family in Bangalore. Firoz Khan was one of the five children of an Afghan father and a Parsi mother. His childhood name was Abbas Ali Khan. Like his businessman father Sanjay Khan also joined business quite early. According to reports he started a rice export business in the 80s in which he used to export rice to Middle Eastern countries.
In 1997 he launched his dream project five-star deluxe Golden Palms Hotel and Spa in Bangalore. His wife Zarine Khan designed the interiors of the hotel. The actor owned the Golden Palms Hotel and Spa with about 150 rooms till 2010. The actor has also been active in real estate and he also has a real estate firm named Esskay Properties. He announced to build a theme park in 2018 with a cost of about 10 thousand crores but the project was closed due to some controversies.

Sanjay Khan not only made his mark as the Golden Boy of Bollywood but also tried his hand in the world of TV after acting. After the big screen the actor also showed his acting skills on the small screen. Sanjay Khan produced and directed many TV shows. The story of Sanjay Khans devotion to Hanuman is quite interesting. He told in an interview that when he was fighting between life and death in the hospital for 13 months a priest of a Hanuman temple prayed for him after which he went to a Hanuman temple in Samode Palace near Jaipur and learned about Hanuman ji there. This experience left a deep impression on his life. With this inspiration he made a TV show Jai Hanuman on Lord Hanuman which was liked by the people very much. This show became a medium to convey the stories and devotion of Lord Hanuman to the people.
