Jennie of BLACKPINK is preparing for the March 7, 2025, release of her first solo album, Ruby. However, the Kpop sensation has been embroiled in an unforeseen scandal ahead of the highly anticipated premiere. Desi BLINKs have sparked discussions on social media by pointing out the uncanny similarities between her song “Like Jennie” and the Rani opening theme from the 2023 Bollywood film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (RRKPK).
When internet users spotted similarities between Like Jennie and the Rani opening theme, which Pritam wrote for Alia Bhatt’s character in RRKPK, the conversation gathered steam. The Bollywood song may have affected Jennie’s song, according to fans who pointed out parallels in the musical rhythms, hook, and overall tune.
Reactions quickly erupted on social media as people expressed their opinions on the surprising similarity. Many people expressed their thoughts on X, previously known as Twitter, with others accusing Jennie of stealing from Bollywood’s musical style.
“Plagiarizing a Bollywood song is crazy work,” one person said. “Pritam getting copied was not on my 2025 bingo card,” said another commenter. One follower quipped, “She decided to steal his nachos after seeing Pritam in every Desi’s top 5 Spotify Wrapped.” The humor didn’t end there.
Others pointed out the irony that Pritam, who has often been charged with stealing from foreign music, now seems to be the one being imitated. One person said, “What a remarkable turnaround for Pritam, the undisputed king of Bollywood music, to go from being labeled a copycat to being copied by international artists.”
Jennie and her staff have not addressed the accusations, despite the increasing internet discussion. Similarly, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’s creators have said nothing about the situation. Many fans are anxious to hear Like Jennie in its entirety so they may form their own opinions as they await the song’s complete release.
A major turning point in Jennie’s career is her solo album Ruby, which she released on her own label, Odd Atelier, in association with Columbia Records. High-profile collaborations abound on the 15-track album, which includes Childish Gambino, Dua Lipa, Doechii, Dominic Fike, FKJ, and Kali Uchis. Mantra, a song Jennie released in October 2024, will also be included on the album.
