New Delhi: The most recent update to the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings, released on March 4, 2025, brings fresh excitement as Virat Kohli continues to shine! The Indian batting star has moved ahead of captain Rohit Sharma, now holding the fourth position. Kohli’s consistent brilliance in high-pressure situations has once again put him in the spotlight. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill maintains his hold at the top spot, affirming his dominance as the leading ODI batter globally.

Kohli’s surge in the rankings was driven by his remarkable 84-run performance in the Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal against Australia, which helped push him up. Despite his consistent form, Rohit has dropped to the fifth position, adding an interesting layer to the competition for ODI supremacy among India’s elite batters.

ICC ODI Batting Rankings (Updated: March 4, 2025):

Rank Player Team Ratings
1 Shubman Gill India 791
2 Babar azam Pakistan 770
3 Heinrich Klaasen South Africa 760
4 Virat Kohli India 747
5 Rohit Sharma India 745
6 Harry Tector Ireland 713
7 Daryl Mitchell New Zealand 705
8 Shreyas Iyer India 702
9 Charith Asalanka Sri Lanka 694
10 Ibrahim Zadran Afghanistan 676

At the age of 36, Virat Kohli continues to show why he is a formidable force in ODI cricket. His recent rise in the rankings, reaching 747 rating points, came after an exceptional performance in the intense ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal against Australia. Kohli’s consistency and relentless pursuit of runs ensure his place among the world’s top players, though his career-high rating of 909 points, achieved in 2018 against England at Headingley, still stands as a remarkable milestone.

Kohli’s ascension to the fourth spot sees him overtake Rohit Sharma, who now holds the fifth position with 745 points. Despite a solid tournament, Rohit’s ranking has slipped due to Kohli’s brilliance pushing him ahead.

While Kohli and Rohit fight for dominance within the Indian team, Shubman Gill continues to reign at the top of the ICC ODI rankings. The young opener, in exceptional form, remains at No. 1 with 791 points. His career-high rating of 847 points was set against Australia in Indore in 2023, and he remains a strong figure for the next generation of cricket.

Pakistan’s Babar Azam, a former No. 1 batter, holds second place with 770 points, maintaining his high level of play. Just behind him is South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen, who climbed into third place with 760 points, his best-ever ranking, following a series of superb performances.

There were significant movements further down the top 10 as well. India’s Shreyas Iyer rose to eighth with 702 points after a solid performance in the Champions Trophy. Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka (ninth, 694 points) and Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran (tenth, 676 points) made their way into the top 10.

Zadran’s remarkable jump of 13 places stands out as one of the biggest stories in this rankings update. His vital contributions to Afghanistan’s campaign played a crucial role in propelling him to his highest-ever ranking.
