In a special initiative to celebrate International Women’s Day, the Rajasthan government has announced free travel for women in state-run buses on March 8. This facility will be available for all ordinary and express buses operating within Rajasthan’s borders.
As a gesture of appreciation and empowerment for women, the Rajasthan government has introduced a free travel scheme in state roadways buses on Women’s Day 2025. The announcement was made on Wednesday under the directive of Roadways Chairperson Shubhra Singh. According to Roadways Managing Director Purushottam Sharma, this benefit will be available from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM on March 8.
The free travel scheme is valid only for ordinary and express buses running within Rajasthan. However, AC and Volvo buses are not included in this offer. Additionally, for women traveling on inter-state routes, the exemption applies only within Rajasthan’s territorial limits. For example, if a woman is traveling from Jaipur to Delhi, the journey within Rajasthan will be free, but she will need to purchase a ticket for the remaining distance beyond the state border.
Rajasthan Roadways Executive Director (Traffic) Jyoti Chauhan emphasized that the free travel scheme is limited to non-AC buses and is restricted within the state. She stated that this initiative is designed to promote women's mobility and ensure cost-free, convenient travel for them on this special day. The government aims to reinforce its commitment to women’s welfare through this effort.
International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8 to recognize and honor the achievements of women worldwide. The theme for International Women’s Day 2025 is ‘Accelerate Action,’ highlighting the global effort to advance strategies and resources that support women's empowerment and progress.
This initiative by the Rajasthan government stands as a significant step toward enhancing women’s access to public transport while celebrating their contributions to society.
