Major Changes in Railway Promotion Rules Announced
A recent decision by the Railway Board has introduced significant changes to the promotion process for railway employees. The board has decided that all departmental promotion exams will now be conducted through a centralized Computer-Based Test (CBT) under the supervision of the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB). Additionally, a structured exam calendar will be created for regional railway examinations, ensuring uniformity in the process.
All departmental promotions will now be conducted via CBT exams administered by RRB.
A standardized examination calendar will be implemented across all regional railways.
Candidates will be provided with access to their question papers, answer sheets, and correct answer keys.
An option to raise objections regarding questions and answer keys will be available.
Key personal details such as caste, certificate number, mobile number, identification marks, photo, signature, date of birth, and educational qualifications will be clearly recorded and verified.
Since 2015, over seven crore candidates have appeared for RRB’s computer-based exams without any instances of paper leaks, impersonation, or use of unauthorized devices. The Railway Board ensures strict security measures to maintain transparency and fairness.
Agency Selection:
RRB selects examination agencies through an open tender process, ensuring they meet strict security and operational standards.
Exam Centre Monitoring:
Examination centers are audited by railway teams.
Outside restrooms are not allowed within examination centers.
100% CCTV surveillance is in place, recording activity two hours before and one hour after the exam.
Exam Centre Details:
Candidates receive exam city details 10 days before the test.
Exact exam venue and center are disclosed four days before the exam.
Computerized allocation of exam centers prevents manual intervention.
Lab and node assignments, including backup nodes, are automated.
Fraud Prevention Measures:
QR codes on applications detect fraudulent submissions.
Barcodes on admit cards ensure candidate authenticity.
Metal detectors screen candidates at entry points.
Biometric attendance verification (including fingerprint and digital scans) is conducted before, during, and after the exam.
These revised promotion rules mark a significant shift in the Railway Board’s recruitment process, making it more transparent, secure, and standardized. While these changes may add challenges for employees, they are aimed at ensuring fair and merit-based promotions within the Indian Railways.
