His wife, businesswoman Nguyen Ngoc Tien, along with their family, confirmed his death at the hospital of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City early Thursday morning. The actor’s body is currently being held at the Southern National Funeral Home in Go Vap District. A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a funeral ceremony at 1 p.m. on March 10. The burial will occur at 1:30 p.m. on the same day.
“Our family sincerely thanks relatives, friends, fans, and media agencies for their condolences and for spreading the news about Quy Binh’s passing,” Tien said in a press release issued Thursday afternoon. “We kindly request no condolences, flowers, or gifts during the funeral preparations.”
Binh’s younger brother Le Phuoc shared a heartfelt message on his social media account: “Rest in peace, brother. There will be no more pain. If there is a next life, let’s be brothers again. Goodbye, my brother.”
It has been reported that the actor had been struggling with a brain tumor.
Many of his colleagues were deeply shocked by the sad news. Vietnamese actor Minh Luan recalled: “On the night of March 5, Quy Binh’s family informed me that he was in critical condition and had been rushed to the hospital, but he didn’t survive. The morning of March 6, his family brought him home to prepare for the funeral.”
Vietnamese actress Ngoc Lan added that Binh had been fighting a serious illness for some time.
“I asked if I could visit him, but he refused because he didn’t want anyone to see him in such a condition,” she shared. “Until the end, he wanted his audience to remember him as the beautiful image he always portrayed. He never complained and always wore a gentle smile.”
After marrying Tien in late 2021, the actor devoted himself to caring for his family. In March 2022, the couple welcomed their first child. Binh once shared that when he became a father for the first time, he cried while holding his baby, feeling the sacredness of fatherhood. To his wife, Binh was a devoted husband and father, always loving and protecting his family.
In his final years, Binh stepped away from many film projects to establish his own media and entertainment company. Alongside his passion for acting and singing, Binh also had an interest in business and finance from a young age. However, for over a year, Binh had limited his participation in artistic activities to focus on his health.
Born Le Ngoc Binh into a family with nine siblings, he was the eighth child. He often shared that his family was very poor, making a living through farming and livestock. As a child, he helped his parents by rowing boats to transport hay and earning extra income for the family.
Though no one in his family pursued the arts, Binh had a natural talent for acting from a young age. After high school, he applied to the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theater and Cinema. Initially, his family opposed his dream, thinking that pursuing the arts would be difficult. As a result, he joined the military and worked at the Ho Chi Minh Municipal Border Guard Command. However, after much persuasion, his family supported his desire to pursue acting.
Binh gained recognition on television with roles in drama series. His notable work also included screen appearances such as the 2014 film “Qua Tim Mau” (Vengeful Heart) directed by Vietnamese-American filmmaker Victor Vu and the 2016 film “Bao Gio Co Yeu Nhau” (I’ll Wait) directed by Vietnamese-American actor and martial artist Dustin Nguyen.
Throughout his career, Binh received numerous awards, including Best Actor at the 2012 Golden Kite Awards, Best Actor in Film and Television at the 2015 Golden Apricot Blossom Awards, and Best Lead Actor at the 2017 Vietnam Film Festival.
