In response to queries posed by Legislative Council members on Thursday, Lokesh said that the government is working to provide additional courses to give students more options and that counselors are being hired to offer advice to students.

Council members B Tirumala Naidu, Duvvarapu Ramarao, and Bhumireddy Ramgopal Reddy questioned the HRD minister about the prevalence of college student suicides, if any research has been done on the subject, and whether the government has taken any action to stop suicides. In response, Lokesh said that the number of suicides varies and does not exhibit a consistent pattern.

According to the minister, a variety of causes, including test stress, financial strain, instructor bullying and humiliation, etc., contribute to student suicides.

According to him, in order to guarantee stress-free education, the Board of Intermediate Education is soliciting input from academics, parents, and students about the courses and changes that should be made to the educational system.

“Counsellors are being hired to provide instructors and pupils with counseling. He underlined the need of hiring professors and building infrastructure in government schools and institutions, saying that lecturers must recognize the early warning signs of pupils who may commit suicide. Every mandal in the state should have a government junior college, he added.

Tirumala Naidu, a member, requested that the HRD minister research the Chakrapani

Commission findings and state implementation.

According to MLC I Venkateswara Rao, students are made victims of their own suicides, and private college administrators are not held accountable.

Lokesh was advised by K Moshen Raju, the chairman of the council, to form a committee to investigate the causes of collegiate suicides.
