Comedy actor Brian Murphy, who is best known for his role in the 1970s British sitcoms Man About the House and George and Mildred, died at his home in Kent (February 2) at the age of 92. His wife Linda Regan has since shared an update on social media as she quietly honoured the late actor.

The actress, 75, penned an emotional tribute to her late husband as the April Wingate star explained she said goodbye to her other half on Friday as fans flocked to support her.

Linda wrote on X: "I went to say goodbye to hubby today. He is at peace. We had a deep and true love and that can never die. Until we meet again my darling husband, rest in peace with the angels and hold onto my love which will never ever die."

The heartbreaking post was accompanied by a drawing of Linda stood beside Brian who is holding a dog.

Social media users flocked to offer their condolences as one wrote: "Loved watching...still watching your Brian in Last of the Summer Wine!!...there must be some comfort in this...kindest regards to you Linda ...take care...love and hugs!"

A second penned: "Thoughts to you and your family today Linda. Brian will be hugely missed but never forgotten."

"Much love to you Linda. I absolutely loved watching anything Brian was in, he was a brilliant comedy actor," a third shared.

A fourth added: "I watched him last night first episode of George and Mildred. One of the best comedies ever. I was allowed to stay up late as a kid to watch it too. He might be a whisper away but his work lives on to entertain us forever. Sleep well Brian and thanks for the laughs."

Brian worked closely with theatre director Joan Littlewood throughout his early career.

More recently, he appeared in episodes of BBC medical drama Holby City, sketch programme The Catherine Tate Show and ITV sitcom Benidorm, as well as comedy show Last of the Summer Wine.

Paying tribute to his "talent and humanity", Brian's friend and agent Thomas Bowington described him as a "joyful and profoundly good-hearted man" at the time of his death.
