New Delhi:- Donkey milk has been known for medicinal properties since ancient times. Its composition is similar to human milk, making it an ideal option for infants with cow's milk. Studies have found that it improves intestinal microflora. Promotes immunity and has some 'anti-dibitic' properties.
Halari donkey milk is also being used in skincare products. It hydrates the skin, reduces wrinkles and makes it glowing. Its use in products like soap, skin gels and face wash is increasing. Due to these properties, this milk is also becoming popular in the global cosmetic industry. In this episode, the donkey of Halari breed is very much discussed.
Requirement of protection
In fact, according to a report by the Times of India, the number of donkeys of the recent breed has now reduced dangerously to only 439. There are 110 males among them. In 2018, it was given the status of independent breed. But in Gujarat and Rajasthan, there has been a huge decline in its population. Experts say that if the steps are not taken immediately, this breed can be extinct in the next five years.
The National Horse Research Center of Bikaner has started studying the conservation of the Halari breed and its milk properties. It is being tested for the skincare application. If its positive results come, it will help preserve the breed and become a new source of income for farmers.
Halari donkeys can also survive in low fodder and water. Their grazing habits have less effect on the environment and help to maintain the ecosystem. A farmer who has five philanthropic donkeys can earn up to Rs 1,500 per day. This is a great example of permanent dairy farming. According to the report, on online platforms, it is sold several times from 5,000 to 7,000 rupees per liter.
Historical and cultural importance
Halari donkey has been named after Jam Shri Halaji Jadeja's ancestor Jam Shri Rawalji Lakh Jadeja. These donkeys with white hair are larger than mango donkeys but smaller than horses. Awareness campaign and traditional ceremonies are also being organized for their protection.
Currently, the milk of the donkey of Halari breed is opening the door of new possibilities in the fields of health, beauty and environmental protection. Protecting it is not only the task of saving a breed, but it is also an attempt to keep the rural economy and ecology balanced.
