March 10, New Delhi The Men in Blue, led by Rohit Sharma, defeated New Zealand by 4 wickets in the ICC Champions Trophy final on Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, to the cheers of President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and others.

The Men in Blue got off to a strong start, setting a target of 252 on a slow-turning Dubai surface. Rohit Sharma, the skipper, targeted the bowlers, while Shubhman Gill, his opening partner, served as an anchor. The middle order, headed by Shreyas Iyer, stabilized the innings even as the New Zealand spinners were able to slow down the Indian run flow by taking the fast wickets of Gill and run-machine Virat Kohli.

After the heartbreaking 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, India won another ICC championship within a year as the run chase ultimately came down to the last second.

“Congratulations to Team India on winning the ICC Champions Trophy, 2025,” President Murmu stated in a post on X. The only team to win the trophy three times is India. The greatest praise should go to the players, coaches, and support personnel for making cricket history. I hope Indian cricket has a very successful future.

PM Modi posted on X, saying, “An fantastic game and an outstanding outcome! We are pleased that our cricket team won the ICC Champions Trophy. They have performed well throughout the competition. Kudos to our team for the outstanding overall performance.

“A victory that scripts history,” HM Shah commented on X, expressing his joy at Men in Blue’s win. Congratulations to Team India for winning the ICC #ChampionsTrophy2025 with such a spectacular victory. Your ferocious enthusiasm and unchallenged supremacy on the field made the country proud and established a new standard for cricket brilliance. I hope you always leave with honors.

“Champion of Champions,” tweeted Union Minister and BJP national president J.P. Nadda. I want to express my sincere congrats to the Indian Men’s Cricket Team for beating New Zealand in the finals to win the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This triumph is a testament to the team’s perseverance and never-say-die mentality. This victory will be remembered for years to come since every player gave it their all. Today, the whole country is rejoicing, and I’m wishing the squad great success.

Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress, too praised Team India on their outstanding triumph.

He posted on X, saying: “The Indian cricket team won spectacularly and lifted the #ChampionsTrophy thanks to an incredible team effort! The captain @ImRo45 and the whole squad put on an incredible display! 140 crore people are really proud of what you have accomplished.

Rahul Gandhi, a Congressman and Lok Sabha MP, tweeted on X: “Boys, smash victory! You have all filled a billion hearts with pride. “A perfect campaign, a perfect ending!” wrote M.K. Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. Rohit and his team step up to the plate, producing a superb campaign, a poised conclusion, and a memorable triumph. Champions once again!”

India won the Champions Trophy for the third time on Sunday, defeating New Zealand by four wickets. Captain Rohit Sharma led the way with 76 runs, while Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Hardik Pandya also made significant contributions.

On a field that didn’t provide much turn, India’s pursuit of 252 seemed to be a simple chore, but it wasn’t because of a tenacious New Zealand that kept scoring. Following Rohit’s spectacular 76 off 83 balls, India’s chase suddenly became tense. Even though New Zealand’s spinners put up a fierce fight, they managed to cross the finish line with an over remaining thanks to their outstanding batting depth.

Iyer scored 48 runs off of 62 balls, but Rahul remained composed and finished with 34 runs off of 33 balls to guarantee that India won the Champions Trophy for the third time after 2002 and 2013, making them the most successful team in the history of the eight-team competition in front of a stadium largely populated by Indian supporters.

After losing out on the 2023 ODI World Cup victory at home, the victory would also be a comforting salve for the Indian squad and its devoted supporters. On a bright day, New Zealand reached 251/7 in their 50 overs thanks to opposing half-centuries from all-rounders Michael Bracewell (53 not out off 40 balls) and Daryl Mitchell (63 off 101 balls).

On a slow field, India’s spinners called the shots most of the time, taking five wickets in total. In order to establish the foundation for a very reliable team, the wrist spin combination of Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy both took two wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja also claimed a scalp.

During the whole competition, Team India was undefeated.

Before defeating bitter foe Pakistan, the Men in Blue won their first game against Bangladesh.

In order to top the table and face Australia in the semi-final, Team India also overcame New Zealand in their most recent league game.
