Kannada singer Harshavardhini Ranya, also known as Ranya Rao, was detained for smuggling gold from Dubai. According to the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) on Sunday, the previous government had given him land in February 2023 to establish a steel mill.
The board was responding to rumors that in 2023, the KIADB had given 12 acres of industrial property to a business connected to the actor. The office of Minister for Medium and Large Industries M B Patil shared the government’s final notification, issued on February 22, 2023, regarding the allocation of land to Ranya’s company, Ksiroda India, at the Sira Industrial Area in the Tumakuru district, after realizing that the case was becoming politically charged.

According to the Karnataka government’s proceedings, which were shared by the minister’s office, “approval to the proposal of M/s Ksiroda India Private Limited to establish a unit for the manufacture of steel products—TMT bars, rods and allied products’ at Sira Industrial Area, Tumakuru district.” The government is happy to grant in-principle approval to the investment proposal of Rs 138 crore, creating jobs for approximately 160 people with the following incentives, concessions, and infrastructure assistance,” the statement read.
According to a press statement from Patil’s office, the KIADB said that the allocation to the Rao-affiliated entity was completed in January 2023.
Speaking of the BJP, KIADB CEO Mahesh said on Sunday that the previous administration had given Ksiroda India 12 acres of property on January 2, 2023. “The land, located in the Sira Industrial Area, Tumakuru district, was approved for allotment during the 137th State Level Single Window Clearance Committee (SLSWCC) meeting held on the same day, when the last government was in power,” said Mahesh.
The business had proposed to establish a production facility for steel TMT bars, rods, and related products with an investment of Rs 138 crore, according to the KIADB news release. It was anticipated that the project would create around 160 jobs.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence said on Wednesday that gold bars valued at Rs 12.56 crore were taken from Ranya at the Kempegowda International Airport here. Searches were then carried out at her home, where gold jewelry valued at Rs 2.06 crore and Indian currency totaling Rs 2.67 crore were also found.
