March 10, Indian Wells Stefanos Tsitsipas beat Matteo Berrettini 6-3, 6-3 at the Paribas Open in Indian Wells, extending his winning run to seven games.

For the second match in as many weeks, the eighth-seeded Greek outperformed Berrettini by taking advantage of the slower conditions. Tsitsipas, who won the championship last week after destroying the Italian in the Dubai quarterfinals, now leads their ATP Head2Head series 5-1.

With a victory in the fourth round, Tsitsipas will move up to No. 7 in the ATP Live Rankings, surpassing Andrey Rublev. With a run to the final match at the first ATP Masters 1000 of the year, he would make his first appearance in the Top 5 since September 2023.

Tsitsipas will next take on 12th seed Holger Rune, who overcame 18th seed Ugo Humbert 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 after converting four of ten break opportunities, to earn his first Top 20 victory on hard court in a year.

In another match, Alex Michelsen had to quit ten minutes into their first encounter on Sunday due to sickness, sending two-time finalist Daniil Medvedev to the fourth round.

According to ATP, Michelsen called the match after Medvedev had a medical stoppage to treat a nosebleed in the second game. The play resumed with a score of 0–2.

With his 200th hard-court victory since 2020, fifth-seeded Medvedev defeated Buyunchaokete on Friday, capping an outstanding start. The 29-year-old needs one more win to get to the ATP Tour quarterfinals for the fourth time in a row.

The 10th seed Tommy Paul, who defeated 2021 champion Cameron Norrie 6-3, 7-5 to record his 50th ATP Masters 1000 victory, will take on Medvedev in the fourth round. The 27-year-old became the only current American player to accomplish this feat, joining Taylor Fritz.

Additionally, Michelsen, who was paired with Ben Shelton in the doubles competition, has withdrew. Alexander Erler and Constantin Frantzen have taken the place of the American team.
