New York-Bound Air India Flight Returns To Mumbai Due To Bomb Threat; Over 320 People On Board

A New York-bound Air India flight returned to Mumbai due to a bomb threat on Monday morning, sources said.

Over 320 people were on board when the flight took off and landed safely at the Mumbai Airport. The aircraft underwent mandatory checks by the security agencies.

According to reports, the aircraft was flying over Azerbaijan when the threat was received, prompting it to return to Mumbai.

“A potential security threat was detected mid-flight on AI119 operating Mumbai-New York (JFK) today, 10 March 2025. After following the necessary protocols, the flight air-returned to Mumbai, in the interest of the safety and security of all on board," Air India said in a statement.

According to sources, a note about the bomb threat was found in one of the lavatories of the flight.

According to reports, the flight took off from Mumbai at around 2 am. The flight returned to its source airport at around 10.30 am. The travel time for the AI-119 flight from Mumbai to New York’s John F Kennedy airport is around 15 hours.
“There were 322 people, including 19 crew members, in the Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft," one of the sources said.
“The flight has been rescheduled to operate at 0500 Hrs of 11 March 2025, and all passengers have been offered hotel accommodation, meals, and other assistance until then," an Air India spokesperson said.
