A strong ally of former President Donald Trump, Noem’s appointment was praised by the White House. A post on X read, "@KristiNoem's confirmation as Secretary of Homeland Security underscores President Trump's commitment to strengthening our nation's security. America is BACK."

Following her confirmation, Noem reiterated her commitment to securing the southern border, reforming the immigration system, and preventing terror threats. She also pledged to enhance disaster response efforts to provide swift relief to Americans in crisis.

As the 8th Secretary of Homeland Security, Noem has vowed to implement stricter immigration policies, bolster border security, and support law enforcement in removing criminal elements. During her confirmation hearing, she referred to illegal immigration as an "invasion," stressing the urgency of securing the nation’s borders.

Additionally, Noem has committed to strengthening intelligence operations, combating cyber threats, and improving emergency response systems. Her leadership at DHS is expected to reflect her staunch advocacy for law and order, reinforcing her conservative approach to national security.

Kristi Noem’s Political Career

Noem’s entry into public service began with her appointment to South Dakota’s Farm Service Agency committee, where she oversaw agricultural programs and loans under the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

In 2010, after serving in the South Dakota legislature for several years, Noem was elected as South Dakota’s lone representative in the U.S. House. Running on a platform of tax reduction, limited government, and transparency, she was later elected in 2018 as the state’s first female governor. She resigned from the governorship in January 2025 to assume her role as the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security.
