Kheda: According to an official, visibility on Gujarat’s Kheda district’s Ahmedabad-Vadodara Highway has returned to normal. This comes after a truck carrying dangerous acid collapsed into a deep hole off the roadway, causing vision to be impaired for 12 kilometers. The event took place on Tuesday night.
Kheda Collector Amit Prakash Yadav told reporters Tuesday night that the container contained an oleum chemical complex.
“A tanker carrying very dangerous gas capsized at the Nadiad entrance point on the Ahmedabad Vadodara Expressway this evening. In the 12-kilometer radius, vision was significantly diminished due to the flammable acid and the development of its vapour cloud. We halted car traffic on the freeway as a precaution to prevent any fatalities or accidents. This execution was finished with the assistance of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, and other private businesses. The visibility is normal now. This acid is Olium, H2S2O7, this is one of the hazardous acids,” Yadav said.
As a precaution, residents of the nearby villages were also evacuated as a result of this occurrence.
A tanker carrying chemicals was headed toward Ahmedabad when it made a wrong turn, causing the tanker to collapse into a trench that was about a foot deep, according to authorities. However, no injuries have been reported in the incident, officials confirmed.
Earlier on Tuesday, district police officials, collector and top officials reached the spot to assess the situation. A lot of smoke was generated from the incident, which led to the closure of the highway for a brief period.
The Ahmedabad and Vadodara fire departments were also called in to assist in reducing the smoke and covering it with earth in addition to the Nadiad fire department. According to authorities, two emergency fire tenders and four bowser trucks were sent from both cities.
Firefighter Ashok Sharma remembered that one individual was sent to the hospital for a check-up as a precaution, despite the fact that no injuries had been recorded.
“When we reached the spot of the incident then no one was there, but I did hear that they brought one person to the hospital,” he said to the media report.
“This incident occurred on the Ahmedabad-Baroda expressway,” the firefighter said. The tanker was originally going to the Ahmedabad side but it crossed onto the wrong side when the accident happened. We discovered that the tanker contained nitrogen, and when we arrived, we saw a lot of smoke pouring out, so we used water and foam to stop it.”
