Women recipients of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana are given free LPG cylinders. Following this, the BJP pledged in its election platform to provide these recipients free cylinder refills for Holi and Diwali.

The Yogi Adityanath administration delivered on its pledge last year around Diwali by giving out free cylinders. Now, in honor of Holi, complimentary refill cylinders will also be given out. This benefit is available to more than 1.85 crore Ujjwala plan participants in the state.

In its Delhi election platform, the BJP pledged to provide impoverished households free cylinders for Holi and Diwali. Additionally, it said that gas cylinders will be given to Delhi’s underprivileged women for a mere Rs 500. The AAP, however, asked the BJP on Tuesday when it will keep its election pledge. Reminding the BJP of its pledge, former chief minister Atishi was seen standing with ladies carrying banners in the shape of cylinders.

PM Modi introduced the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in 2016. The program’s goal was to link 50 million women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) households to LPG. The initiative received a budgeted allocation of Rs 80 billion. In 2021, the Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 took its place.
