This Eid, one fashion trend is ruling social media: the Farshi Shalwar. Celebrities and influencers alike are all about this classic yet fashionable outfit, making it the talk of the season.
The Farshi Shalwar is a classic South Asian lower garment dating back to the Mughal period. Recognizable for its exaggerated flare and flowing, long material, it is made to graciously flow on the floor (“farsh” in Urdu means floor). Contrary to contemporary shalwars that fold at the ankle, the Farshi Shalwar falls below the feet, giving a kingly appearance. It was once a royal women and aristocratic staple, worn with elaborately embroidered kameezes and dupattas.
The Farshi Shalwar trend recently gained momentum once again thanks to celebrities and social media personalities. The trend kicked off when model Sadaf Kanwal was spotted wearing a silk Farshi Shalwar along with a short sleeveless shirt. Shortly thereafter, the popular actress Ayeza Khan contributed to the hype by posting an Instagram caption stating, “My cousin texted me at 7 AM asking me what Farshi Shalwar is and why is everyone obsessed with it? Well, I’ve already used it 77 times, and Dil abhi tk bhara nhi .”
The trend soon picked up, and celebrities such as Hira Bleeh and actresses Saboor Aly, Kubra Khan ,Hania Aamir and many others also wore this stunning outfit. Their gorgeous appearances further made the Farshi Shalwar popular, and it became the epitome of fashion for Eid.

Even TV hosts could not resist this trend. On his show, Fahad Mustafa questioned his guest, Shaista Lodhi, regarding the craze over Farshi Shalwar.
With its growing popularity, it is probably safe to say that this Eid will be all about girls showcasing their beautiful and flowing Farshi Shalwars. That said, the trend has also generated debate around its exorbitant prices, making it an expensive option for most.
Regardless of whether one is inspired by nostalgia or social media trends, the Farshi Shalwar is certainly the go-to garment for Eid 2025!
