A wave of mourning in Indian cricket, veteran all -rounder dies

New Delhi. Former Indian all -rounder Syed Abid Ali died on Wednesday at the age of 83 in the US. Abid Ali played 29 Test matches for India, in which he took 47 wickets. The fielding of this talented cricketer from Hyderabad was excellent and his running was great. He took six wickets for 55 runs in his debut Test match, which was played against Australia in Brisbane.

Abid Ali scored two brilliant half -centuries (78 and 81) in the same series in Sydney. He is also known for scoring a winning run in a famous win at the Oval against England in 1971.

Have done UAE coaching

Apart from India, Syed Abid Ali played first class cricket for Hyderabad and South region for 22 years and also coached from 1978. He had a great coaching experience, due to which he was approached by the UAE Cricket Board in 2001. Ali always believed in bringing weak teams to the top level. He had already done so with the Andhra Pradesh team. Because of this thinking, he accepted the proposal of UAE.

This legendary cricketer from Hyderabad was also known as 'Chichha'. Syed Abid Ali also coached the Andhra Ranji team as well as the cricket teams of Maldives and UAE. He got his son Fakir Ali married to the daughter of former India wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani.

On the death of Syed Abid Ali, former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha wrote on X (East Twitter), expressing grief that I am very saddened by the news of the death of Hyderabad's great all -rounder Syed Abid Ali Sir. In Indian cricket, especially in the 1960s and 70s, his contribution will always be remembered. My deep condolences to his family and loved ones. God give peace to his soul!

Former Indian fast bowler Doda Ganesh also mourned the death of Syed Abid Ali. He wrote in his post that one of India's top cricketers, I am very sad about the news of the death of Shri Syed Abid Ali. Sir, God give peace to your soul. My condolences and prayers are with a heartbreaking family.
