Aligarh: An elderly couple was attacked with acid by their neighbours while they were heading to the market in Aligarh's Sasnigate area. The couple sustained severe burns, and some passersby were also injured.
As per reports, the attackers fled the scene while the victims were rushed to Malkhan Singh District Hospital for treatment. Police are conducting raids to arrest the suspects and will file a case based on the victims' complaint. The elderly man stated they had left home to visit their son.
The Couple Was Headed to Meet Their Son
According to a report by Dainik Bhasker, Abdul Sattar, a resident of Qasimnagar, Bhujpura bypass, was heading to the market with his wife, Munni Begum, to meet their son Ayub on Wednesday (March 12) morning when they were ambushed by their neighbor Faiz and his friends.
According to the son, Faiz, along with Shoaib, Shadab, Shahzad, and a few unidentified individuals, threw acid from bottles, severely injuring the couple before they could react. The attackers fled, and locals immediately informed the police.
Passersby Were Also Injured In the Attack
The acid thrown at the elderly couple also splashed onto six passersby, leaving several injured. Three of them, along with the couple, were taken to the district hospital for treatment.
Police have launched an investigation and are actively searching for the accused, who fled the scene after the attack. The shocking broad-daylight incident has sparked widespread concern in the area.
Ongoing Dispute Behind Acid Attack
Police revealed that both parties are neighbors from the same community and had an ongoing dispute. Following the attack, CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed to gather strong evidence.
Sasnigate police station in-charge, Vinod Kumar, confirmed that besides the elderly couple, three others sustained burns. A written complaint is being taken from the victims, after which a case will be registered. Meanwhile, investigation is underway to track down the accused.
