Uttar Pradesh Government to Provide Free LPG Refills for Ujjwala Beneficiaries

In a major festive relief initiative, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) will receive financial aid for LPG cylinder refills ahead of Holi and during Ramzan. This initiative aims to support millions of families across the state.

Massive Subsidy Distribution Ahead of Holi

Just before the festival, the Chief Minister allocated Rs 1,890 crore in subsidies to 1.86 crore eligible families under the Ujjwala scheme. The funds were transferred digitally from the Lok Bhavan auditorium in Lucknow, with district ministers participating via video conference.

Key Highlights of the Scheme

According to an official statement, Yogi Adityanath emphasized that previously, people had to pay bribes for gas connections, but now, under the Ujjwala scheme, free LPG connections have been provided to 10 crore families across India. Additionally, free cylinder refills are now being offered on Holi and Diwali to eligible households.

“This year, since Holi and Ramzan coincide, all beneficiaries will receive support under this scheme,” he stated.

Millions of Families Benefit from Ujjwala Yojana

Launched in 2016, the Ujjwala scheme has provided free LPG connections to 10 crore families nationwide, with nearly two crore families benefiting in Uttar Pradesh alone. The Chief Minister highlighted that in the 2021 elections, his government had pledged to offer free LPG refills on Holi and Diwali, a promise that has been fulfilled every year since 2022.

“With Holi and Ramzan occurring together this time, everyone will get its benefits,” he assured.

Government’s Commitment to Welfare Initiatives

Yogi Adityanath reiterated that the scheme was launched to protect poor families, particularly mothers, from the harmful effects of smoke. He stressed that no discrimination is involved, and the government remains dedicated to the welfare of the underprivileged, farmers, and women.

Additionally, the Chief Minister announced various welfare measures:

  • 22 lakh girls have received Rs 25,000 each for education.
  • Four lakh girls have been married under the Chief Minister’s Mass Marriage Scheme.
  • From April onwards, the government will provide Rs 1 lakh in financial assistance for the marriage of girls.

This initiative reaffirms the government’s commitment to uplifting economically weaker sections and ensuring that festivals can be celebrated without financial burdens.
