PuneA 27-year-old man allegedly set over a dozen two-wheelers on fire in his residential society after his mother refused to give him money for drugs. The shocking incident took place around 3 a.m. on Wednesday in Pimpri Chinchwad and was captured on CCTV.
The accused, identified as Swapnil Shivsharan Pawar, was seen in the footage pouring a liquid, suspected to be fuel, over parked two-wheelers before igniting them with a lighter and fleeing the scene. Officials confirmed that at least 13 vehicles were completely charred.

Following a complaint by residents, police arrested Pawar shortly after the incident.
According to his mother, Pawar returned home between 2 and 3 a.m. and demanded money. When she refused, he threatened to set both them and their building on fire. She later urged the police not to grant him bail, fearing further violent behaviour.
His brother echoed her concerns, revealing that the family had been giving him money out of fear for their safety. “We kept giving in, but now my mother has finally taken a stand,” he said.
A resident of the society stated that while Pawar struggles with drug addiction, he is otherwise intelligent. Pawar remains in police custody as investigations continue, officials confirmed.
