Ranya Rao gold smuggling case: Kannada actress's bail plea rejected

Mumbai Mumbai: Kannada actress, who is the step daughter of DGP Ramchandra Rao, applied for bail. However, on Friday, March 14, the special court refused to grant him bail for economic crimes, saying that the allegations against him were serious. The court headed by Judge Vishwanath C. Gaadar agreed that the actress should remain in judicial custody.

The actress was arrested last week at the airport in Bengaluru, smuggling 14.2 kg worth Rs 12.56 crore from Dubai in India. Recently, during interrogation with DRI, the actress admitted to smuggling gold and said that this was her first time and she would never do illegal work again. He explained to the officials in detail how he received a call from an unknown number and was asked to smuggle gold from Dubai.

He further explained that he had learned the tricks from YouTube to hide gold at the airport. During interrogation, DRI asked Ranya about her frequent foreign visits, to which the actress replied that she travels for photography and real estate business. He said in his statement, “I have visited Europe, America, Africa and Middle East several times.” Recently, when asked about her visit to Dubai, Ranya said, “I got a call from a foreign phone number on 1 March. I was asked to go to Gate A of Terminal 3 of Dubai Airport. I was asked to take gold at Dubai Airport and deliver it in Bengaluru.

This was the first time I smuggled gold from Dubai to Bengaluru. I never bought or bought gold from Dubai before. “When Dri asked the actress about the identity of the person, she told that she was not completely sure who called her, but she told that the caller was pronounced African-American.
