Hollywood A-lister Glen Powell and Oscar-winning director Barry Jenkins are all set to join forces for a new sci-fi thriller titled The Natural Order, reported Deadline.

The project, which is being developed by Universal Studios, is based on an unpublished manuscript by Matthew Aldrich, known for his work on Disney/Pixar's Coco.

The film will explore the theme of eternal life and is currently in the adaptation stage with Jenkins and Aldrich.

Production details


The Natural Order is the first film produced by Powell and Dan Cohen under their new company, Barnstorm, which recently signed a first-look deal with Universal.

Adele Romanski and Mark Ceryak will also produce the film under their Pastel banner with Jenkins.

Jewerl Keats Ross, who was pivotal in bringing Jenkins, Aldrich, and Powell together, is also in talks to join the production team.


Powell's rising star power in Hollywood
Box office success


Powell has recently become a leading star for big studio projects.

His most recent film, Twisters, recorded the biggest opening weekend ever for a natural disaster film at the domestic box office with $81.2 million.

The film grossed $267.7 million domestically and $371 million globally.

He also appeared in the recent box office hit Anyone But You.


Jenkins's impressive directorial portfolio
Award-winning director


Jenkins is best known for his work on the Best Picture winner Moonlight, which won him an Oscar for Adapted Screenplay.

His film If Beale Street Could Talk received three Oscar nominations and won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Director.

Jenkins's limited series Underground Railroad won him Best Limited Series at the Golden Globes and BAFTA and earned him a DGA Award for Best Director.


Aldrich's successful career and upcoming projects
Screenplay success


Aldrich, the writer behind Coco, has an impressive career in the film industry.

His Disney/Pixar film's screenplay grossed over $800 million worldwide and won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.

His screenplay for Dynamic Duo, a Robin origin story, was recently greenlit by Warner Bros and DC Studios. It is set to be released in summer 2028.
