Turkish boxer Busenaz Surmeneli advances to world championship final

Turkish boxer Busenaz Surmeneli has secured her place in the final of the Women’s World Boxing Championship being held in Serbia, continuing her impressive international career.

Surmeneli delivered a dominant performance in the 66-kilogram semifinal match against Serbia’s home favorite Anastasija Lukajic at the Cair Sports Center in Nis. The Turkish athlete won with a unanimous 5-0 decision, showcasing her superior technique and skill throughout the bout.

The identity of Surmeneli’s opponent in the final will be determined during the evening session of the tournament. The championship final is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 16.

This marks Surmeneli’s third consecutive appearance in a world championship final. The accomplished boxer previously claimed gold medals at both the 2019 and 2022 World Championships and is now seeking a historic third world title.

The 26-year-old fighter has built an impressive resume that includes gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Her collection of international honors also features championships at the European Championships, European Games, and Mediterranean Games.

Surmeneli’s continued success on the international stage has established her as one of Türkiye’s most decorated active athletes and a dominant force in women’s boxing.
