The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has banned England's dashing batsman Harry Brook from the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the next two years. As per the board's new policy, Brook will not be able to participate in the auction for the next two years. BCCI has informed the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) about this. Brook had recently withdrawn his name from this season at the last moment. The Indian board has punished him for this mistake. Brook had entered the auction with a base price of Rs 2 crore, but Delhi Capitals spent more than three times his base price (Rs 6.25 crore) to include him in their team for IPL 2025.

BCCI showed strictness

BCCI had made many rules regarding the tournament before the IPL 2025 auction. During this, the board had clearly said that if any player is selected after registering in the auction. After this, if he does not make himself available for the tournament just before the start of the season and refuses to play, then he will be banned from participating in the tournament and auction for 2 seasons. BCCI has shown strictness regarding this rule.

According to the report of Indian Express, BCCI has officially informed the ECB and Harry Brook about the 2-year ban. A board official said, 'BCCI has sent official information to ECB and Brook about imposing a two-year ban on Brook as per its policy. Every player was informed about this before registering his name for the IPL auction last year. This is the policy of the board and every player has to follow it.'

Name withdrawn for the second consecutive time

However, this is not the first time that Harry Brook has suddenly withdrawn his name from the IPL. Even before IPL 2024, he had refused to play in the tournament similarly. In this way, this is the second consecutive year when Brook has withdrawn from IPL citing personal reasons. However, this time Brook has also apologized for his decision.

26-year-old Brook had issued a statement explaining his move. He said, 'I have made a very difficult decision, for which I want to apologize to Delhi Capitals and its supporters.' Brook was part of Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023. There he scored 190 runs in 11 matches. SRH bought him for Rs 13.25 crore.
