MPSC: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said that all competitive examinations conducted through the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) will be conducted in Marathi. Fadnavis made this announcement while responding to a question raised by Shiv Sena (Ubatha) MLA Milind Narvekar in the state Legislative Council on Wednesday. Narvekar said that some examinations related to agriculture and engineering are conducted only in the English language. He asked why engineering-related examinations are not being conducted in the Marathi language.

Books should be in Marathi for technical examinations as well.

Responding to this question, Chief Minister Fadnavis said, "These examinations are already conducted in both Marathi and English. However, the court had ruled in some cases that some examinations, especially those related to agricultural engineering, should be conducted only in English.''

He said, "When the matter was taken to the court, discussions were held at the government level and it was found that textbooks for these subjects are not available in Marathi. This matter was brought to the notice of the court and it accepted the argument. The Chief Minister said that efforts are being made to provide Marathi textbooks for technical subjects.

MPSC exams will now be held in Marathi too

He said, "The state government has now decided that even though textbooks are not available at present, the new education policy allows us to conduct engineering courses in Marathi. Therefore, MPSC exams which are not being conducted in Marathi due to lack of study material will be held with new textbooks." Fadnavis said that this decision is expected to benefit Marathi-speaking students who want to take the MPSC exam but face difficulties due to the language barrier.
