New drama Protection airs on ITV1 this week after being hotly anticipated for several months - but where was it filmed? Protection, set to be released in full on ITVX on Sunday, March 16, sees DI Liz Nyles (Siobhan Finneran) investigate the murder of a family in witness protection.
The murder rocks the witness protection unit team and raises questions about the unit's integrity, with allegations of corruption and links to organised crime.

The new drama promises to be another stellar drama on 1, which the first episode airing at 9pm on Sunday. Filming took place in the summer of 2023, with some locations familiar to viewers.
Where was Protection filmed?Filming took place between July and September 2023 in a number of locations across the north-west of England. With the support of the Liverpool Film Office, filming for the drama took place in Wirral, Liverpool, Birkenhead, Knowsley, Sefton and Halton.
Other filming spots include Runcorn in Cheshire. Filming took place outside of Reel Time Amusements and Hays Travel inside the shopping centre itself.
The exact places where the crews filmed have not been revealed yet, but people from the city region may well spot some familiar locations once the series starts.
Speaking about filming in Liverpool, lead actress Siobhan Finneran said: "I loved filming in Liverpool, it’s a great place to potter about and look at buildings. It was great to work with Katherine (Kelly) again, and working with Nadine was great as well – I'd not done so before, but we've got some great scenes together.
"I just enjoy being on set with good actors and being able to play with the scenes. Although I’ve never done a job this intense. I was in every day and pretty much every scene, so it was exhausting.
"Your day starts at five and doesn't finish till ten. But I loved it."
The series is produced by multi award winning production company, New Pictures (Des, The Missing, The Long Shadow, Dalgliesh), part of All3Media. Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Willow Grylls (Des, The Missing, The Long Shadow) and Charlie Hampton (The Spanish Princess, The Deceived) executive produce Protection alongside Elaine Pyke and Kris Mrksa.
The series will be produced by Rebecca Davies (Cobra) and line produced by Tracy Chapman (Cobra). ITV’s Head of Drama Polly Hill will oversee production on behalf of the broadcaster.
Protection starts at 9pm on Sunday, March 16 on ITV1 and ITVX. All episodes will be available on ITVX.
