Mukesh Ambani’s JioStar is setting ambitious goals to reach 1 billion viewers across both television and digital platforms during the upcoming major cricket event IPL 2025. As part of its strategy JioStar is reportedly planning to remove its entertainment content from YouTube aiming to prevent customers from migrating from linear TV to free digital streaming. This shift is expected to take effect from May 1 according to reports from ET. Following its recent acquisition JioStar has decided to place all of its content including sports on a paywall to enhance monetization. JioStar’s Plan For IPL 2025 In preparation for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) JioStar is reportedly in discussions with telecom providers Reliance Jio Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) to bundle JioHotstar subscriptions with their data plans. The move aims to boost subscriptions and attract a massive audience during the cricket mega event. During IPL 2024 JioCinema witnessed a 35000 crore minutes of viewership marking a growth of over 38% compared to the previous year. To attract advertisers for the upcoming 2025 IPL JioHotstar is focusing on startups and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The platform offers advertising packages ranging from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore. Disney+ Hotstar Merger Impact According to Reliance Industries Limited’s 2024 annual report as of June 2024 Disney+ Hotstar had 35.5 million paying subscribers while JioCinema emerged as the fastest-growing subscription-based OTT platform with 16 million paying subscribers by September 2024. Since the merger of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar JioStar has been actively restructuring its operations to streamline efficiency. Reports indicate a mass layoff program to eliminate redundant roles potentially affecting 1100 employees by June 2025.
