The festival of colors, Holi, was celebrated across India with great enthusiasm on March 14, while some states marked the occasion on March 13 and 15. Amidst the vibrant celebrations, it's common for currency notes in our pockets to get colored or wet. If this has happened to you, don’t worry! You can exchange or reuse them without hassle.

RBI Guidelines on Colored or Wet Notes

Wet Notes? Simply dry them and continue using them. No shopkeeper can legally refuse them.
Colored Notes? If shopkeepers hesitate to accept them, visit your bank to get them exchanged.
No Exchange Fee! Banks do not charge any fee for exchanging stained, old, or torn notes.

Process to Exchange Damaged Notes

💰 Visit Your Bank – Carry the colored or damaged notes to your nearest bank branch.
💰 Exchange Limit – You can exchange up to 20 notes at a time, with a total value of ₹5,000.
💰 Facing Issues? If a bank refuses to exchange your notes, contact RBI’s helpline at 1440.

Beware: Damaging Notes is a Crime!

🚨 Under Section 27 of the RBI Act, 1934, intentionally tampering with notes is illegal.
🚨 RBI’s Clean Note Policy ensures that banks and the public handle currency carefully.

So, if your crisp notes have turned Holi-colored, follow these simple steps and get them exchanged hassle-free! ✅
