The climax saw Neville confess his extramarital dalliance after a compact mirror was sneakily placed in his car, an act that triggered a chain of homicides. A vengeful Neville, having been abandoned by Audrey despite vows of eternal unity, was unveiled as Lady Tressilian's (Anjelica Huston) murderer, killing her to claim her fortune before she could alter her will.

He also eliminated lawyer Mr Treves (Clarke Peters) to cast suspicion back on Audrey.

As the curtain fell, Neville faced the gallows, and Audrey proclaimed her liberation. However, the audience reaction was far from celebratory, with many taking to to air their grievances, reports .

A disgruntled viewer tweeted: "I've decided that there was almost nothing about #TowardsZero that I liked apart from what the ladies were wearing." (sic)

A second viewer was far from impressed with the @'s adaptation of @agathachristie's work, lamenting: "I really don't trust the @BBC with an @agathachristie adaptation as everyone has been dreadful and they rewrite them as if #AgathaChristie wasn't a good enough writer. The estate and family really need to rethink who they give the rights to #TowardsZero."

Meanwhile, another viewer praised Matthew Rhys for his portrayal of Inspector Leach while swiping at the overall show: "I'm always intrigued by actors who give performances far better than their production deserves. Matthew Rhys almost convinces that #TowardsZero on BBC One is rather good. Appearing like a depressed Columbo, he brings depths, richness and complexity not apparent elsewhere."

Anger bubbled up for a fourth fan over the latest screen version of their favourite Christie novel: "Towards Zero is one of my favourite Christie novels, but this adaptation has been utter b******s."

Yet, the final episode attracted some admiration, with viewers deeming it superior to its predecessors.

One such viewer commented: "I found the last episode to be much better. Shame I googled a character to see who was playing them and saw them in a wiki list of villains. Gave the game away somewhat." (sic)

Echoing these sentiments, another chimed in with approval: "A better episode of #towardszero tonight I m o. Leech has come off better, and I like the way he proved Neville Strange is the culprit!".
