Seven associates of MP Amritpal Singh, held under the National Security Act in Assam's Dibrugarh Jail, will be transferred to Punjab. Punjab Police are handling the transfer and will proceed with further investigations into the 2023 Ajnala police station attack incident.

Guwahati: Seven associates of jailed MP and radical preacher Amritpal Singh, who were lodged in Dibrugarh Jail in Assam under the National Security Act, will be moved out to Punjab.

A team of 25 members of the Punjab Police is in Dibrugarh to ensure their smooth transfer. A senior police officer, who did not want to be named, said, "The Punjab government has decided to transfer seven detainees from Dibrugarh Jail in Assam to Punjab. The state government has also decided not to extend their detention under the stringent National Security Act."

The police officer said that the transfer will take place on Wednesday. According to deputy inspector general of police (Border Range Amritsar), Satinder Singh, police will take the investigation forward in the 2023 Ajnala police station attack incident.

He said 10 individuals, who had been detained under NSA in connection with the Ajnala incident, have not yet been formally arrested. "We are taking the investigation in the matter forward. We will arrest the seven persons in FIR No.39 and bring them back to Punjab," the DIG told reporters in Amritsar.

Amritpal contested the Lok Sabha poll from Punjab's Khadoor Sahib seat and won the seat. Last year, Assam Police arrested Nipen Das, superintendent of Central Jail, Dibrugarh, in connection with objectionable material found in the cell of Amritpal and his associates.
