The entertainment industry solely depends on box office collection in the past several decades a film is declared flop break-even superhit or blockbuster based on the return on investment. Today almost every other film released either becomes blockbuster or superhit film like Jawan Pathaan Kalki 2898 AD Pushpa 2 and Chhaava dominated the box office for month. Let us take you back to the history many may have forgotten Indias first blockbuster film. Read on to find out the name of the film. You might be wondering that this blockbuster film must have starred either Salman Khan Shah Rukh Khan Aamir Khan Rajinikanth or Amitabh Bachchan. Let us tell you the makers neither starred any big name. Instead the makers starred actors who once used to be lab technician and yet a single film made them the biggest stars. It was in 1943 when the Indian cinema got its first blockbuster. The film in question is none other than Kismet. The film not only rewrote history but it went on to give birth to the first superstar of the Hindi film industry. Kismet starred Ashok Kumar in lead role who went on to become countrys first big film star after doing this film. You wont believe that Kismet was one such Indian film that made a record of running continuously in theatres for 3 years. It ran for about 200 weeks in Kolkatas Radha Talkies which was a big record in itself. Directed by Gyan Mukherjee Kismet was produced by Bombay Talkies Studio. The films success was important since the entire world was struggling during the difficult times of World War II. There was economic crisis everywhere Kismet did wonders in drawing people to the cinema halls. According to reports Ashok Kumars film was made in a budget of about Rs 2 lakh. About 82 years ago this film had earned Rs 1 crore in that era. With this it got the title of the first blockbuster of Hindi cinema. Many many not know that Ashok Kumar was originally a lab technician. His real name is Kumudlal Kunjilal Ganguly. He used to work as a technician in Bombay Talkies in those days. But one day his luck changed so much that this film changed everything. Himansu Rai the owner of Bombay Talkies decided to make him a hero. His decision was successful. Later Ashok Kumar made many big hits in Hindi cinema through his films. Kismet was also a big experiment for Hindi cinema. It was a drama film in which a pickpocket (Ashok Kumar) helps an innocent girl and her family. Where a virgin girl becomes pregnant. The film introduced the concept of anti-hero for the first time which later became the foundation of Amitabh Bachchans angry young man image.
