Latest Injury Update on Mayank Yadvav and Umran Malik: The IPL 2025 will get underway on March 22, with the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The 10-team tournament will run until May 25.

Once again, fans will look to have their eyes on special Indian talents. Among the young Indian players who have been on the radar of the fans in recent times are fast bowlers Umran Malik and Mayank Yadav because of their sheer pace.

The duo have emerged as the Indian pacers with the ability to crank up speeds higher than 150 KPH over their four-over spells. However, both have been prone to injuries.

So let’s see what their injury status is as of now.

Injury Update on Mayank Yadvav and Umran Malik

Will Mayank Yadav play in IPL 2025?

Mayank Yadav, who was retained by Lucknow Super Giants for INR 11 crore, is reportedly set to miss at least the first half of the IPL 2025 season as he is recovering from a lumbar stress injury in his lower back on the left side, according to ESPNcricinfo.

He is undergoing rehab at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and has resumed bowling, but not at full tilt. Mayank suffered this injury after his India T20I debut last October against Bangladesh.

LSG would be hoping that Mayank is fit and available for the second half of the season. He made his IPL debut in IPL 2024 and made a huge impact immediately, bagging two Man of the Match awards in his first two outings. However, he featured in only four games due to a side strain.

Such is his talent and potential that the BCCI handed him a fast-bowling contract. He made his India debut in T20Is in October but could play only one game due to another injury.

Last month, Zaheer Khan, LSG’s new team director, said the franchise won’t be rushing him back and would wait for him to get 150% fit.

Will Umran Malik play in IPL 2025?

No, pacer Umran Malik will not play in the IPL 2025 as he’s been ruled out of the tournament due to a hip fracture. A tearaway fast bowler from J&K, Umran was bought by KKR in the IPL 2025 mega auction for INR 75 lakhs. KKR have named left-arm seamer Chetan Sakariya as Umran’s replacement for the upcoming season.

The 25-year-old Malik made headlines for his deadly pace in his first couple of IPL seasons in 2021 and 2022 for SRH. However, he’s been plagued with injuries over the last couple of years. He played eight matches in IPL 2023 and only one game in IPL 2024 before going down with an injury.

He hasn’t played any competitive cricket since IPL 2024, missing out on the entire domestic season. Malik featured in eight T20Is for India between June 2022 and February 2023.

Meanwhile, Sakariya was with KKR as a reserve player last season and now has been drafted into the squad as Malik’s replacement.
