Former Finance Minister Summoned Again
In a high-profile drug case, Bikramjit Singh Majithia, a former finance minister and leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal, is facing renewed challenges. After previously serving time in jail, he appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Patiala on Monday for questioning related to the ongoing investigation.
During a press conference held at the police lines, senior IPS officer Varun Sharma revealed that the SIT is conducting inquiries into the drug case involving Majithia, as mandated by the Supreme Court. This questioning is set to continue on March 18.
Sharma indicated that the SIT has broadened its investigation to include financial transactions that occurred abroad. The team has been scrutinizing these suspicious financial dealings, especially since three of the four accused are currently overseas. The SIT is making every effort, including issuing Blue Corner Notices, to bring these individuals into the legal process.
Sharma further disclosed that evidence of questionable financial transactions linked to Majithia and firms associated with his family has come to light. Notably, during the relevant period, these firms saw a significant influx of cash and engaged in financial dealings with foreign companies. The SIT is probing the sources of this sudden increase in cash deposits and transactions, leading to further questioning of Majithia.
