New Delhi: Prithvi Shaw continues to be a puzzling figure in Indian cricket. Once regarded as a potential successor to Sachin Tendulkar Shaws career has taken a downturn after participating in just five Tests six ODIs and one T20I for the national team. Recently his situation has worsened as the 25-year-old went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction and was excluded from Mumbais squads for the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Ranji Trophy. Shashank Singh a player from Punjab Kings (PBKS) who has played alongside Shaw for Mumbai has shared insights into the possible reasons behind Shaws struggles. Shashank mentioned Prithvi Shaw while discussing potential future great openers for India. Consequently Shaw was included in a list that featured Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Here is when Shashank was asked about Shaws struggles. Prithvi Shaw is often not given the recognition he deserves. If he returns to his fundamental skills he has the potential to accomplish great things. I have known him since he was 13 years old having played club cricket with him in Mumbai. When asked about his challenges Shashank mentioned that Shaw has a unique viewpoint on certain matters during his discussion on the Shubhankar Mishra podcast. Maybe he can change something about his work ethic maybe sleep at 10 PM instead of 11 PM maybe improve his diet Shashank added. Shashank stated that accepting and modifying certain aspects would greatly benefit Indian cricket. Shashank noted that Shaw should have individuals in his circle who are more qualified than he is to offer him guidance. Shashank mentioned that the individual might already be implementing changes and does not require his guidance as he likely has several more qualified advisors providing him with assistance. Shaw recently guided the Route Mobile squad during the DY Patil T20 2025 tournament. The 25-year-old established a starting price of Rs 75 lakh for the IPL 2025 mega auction but received no bids from any of the 10 franchises. Conversely Shashank Singh has experienced a successful period. He had a remarkable season with Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 scoring 354 runs with an impressive strike rate close to 165. Shashank was the first player retained by PBKS before the mega auction with a retention fee of Rs 5.5 crore. His rapid ascent in popularity led to him becoming the ninth-most searched athlete on Google in 2024 with Hardik Pandya being the only other Indian in the Top 10. In IPL 2025 Shashank will be playing for PBKS under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer as the franchise seeks to secure its first title.
