The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the release of new ₹100 and ₹200 banknotes, sparking curiosity among the public about the validity of existing notes. However, RBI has confirmed that old notes will remain legal tender, and their circulation will continue as usual.
What’s Changing? The new banknotes will feature the signature of the newly appointed RBI Governor, Sanjay Malhotra, while retaining the same design under the Mahatma Gandhi (New Series).
Why the New Notes?RBI periodically issues updated currency with the incumbent Governor’s signature to maintain the consistency of the monetary system. The new notes will soon be introduced into circulation as part of this routine process.
