In a big loss to the Pawar family, Bharati Pawar, aunt of Ajit Pawar and Supriya Sule, and the wife of Sharad Pawar's brother Pratap Pawar, passed away on Monday evening at her residence in Pune.
The last rites were performed at Vaikunth crematorium in the afternoon.
Who was Bharati Pawar?
Bharati Pawar, born as Bharati Shripatrao Patil, was originally from Mumbai. She spent her childhood in the Shivaji Park area, where she completed her schooling at Balmohan Vidya Mandir. She pursued her degree in Fine Arts from Ruia College and, excelling in painting, later completed her post-graduate degree in the same field. On 22 August 1970, she married Pratap Pawar.
A passionate social worker, Bharti Pawar became actively involved in various initiatives through ‘Sakal’ after moving to Pune. She dedicated nearly 35 years to the Bal Kalyan Sanstha (Child Welfare Institute) near Aundh, where she was a trustee and participated in every aspect of its activities. She taught painting to many children and formed close relationships with the institute’s officers and employees. Bharti Pawar was also a trustee of the Koregaon Park and Kothrud blind schools and contributed to numerous initiatives there.
She is survived by her husband Pratap Pawar, son Abhijit Pawar, daughter-in-law Mrinal Abhijit Pawar, grandchildren Janhvi and Rahul, daughter Ashwini, and grandson Zakir.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid tribute to Bharti Pawar on X. Other members of the Pawar family, including Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, MP Supriya Sule, Sunetra Pawar, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Cultural Minister Ashish Shelar, MLA Dilip Walse Patil, Shashikant Shinde, and others also shared their condolences on X.
