Social media influencer Orhan Avatramani, popularly known as Orry, and his friends have landed in controversy after allegedly consuming alcohol at a hotel in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir. Since alcohol and non-vegetarian food are strictly prohibited near the Vaishno Devi temple, an FIR was registered against Orry and his group.
Reacting to the incident, Katra Hotel and Restaurant Association President Rakesh Wazir clarified that alcohol is completely banned in Katra due to its religious significance. He stated:
"Katra is a very religious place, and the consumption of alcohol and meat is strictly prohibited here. When we learned that some people were drinking alcohol in a hotel, we immediately reported it to the police. This complaint wasn’t made by outsiders but by the hotel management itself."
He further explained that while garlic and onion are not officially banned, most hotels avoid using them to respect religious sentiments and maintain the sanctity of the area.
Wazir also emphasized that visitors to Haridwar, Tirupati, or Katra should avoid consuming alcohol in these places, as it disturbs the religious atmosphere. He acknowledged the difficulty hotel owners face in monitoring guests but assured that any suspicious activities are reported to the authorities.
