The ongoing dispute over the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb has escalated into violence, leading to riots in Nagpur on Monday night. The situation took a serious turn when a mob attacked the police, pelting stones, setting vehicles and shops on fire, and even targeting officers. One of the most shocking incidents involved DCP Niketan B Kadam, who was reportedly attacked with an axe by rioters.
Niketan B Kadam is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 2018 batch of the Maharashtra cadre. He was born in Nashik, Maharashtra, and pursued his early education in a Marathi-medium Zilla Parishad school. Later, he completed a diploma and B.Tech before securing a job in an IT company. However, despite having a well-paying job, he was not satisfied with his career and decided to prepare for the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
Niketan moved to Delhi for his UPSC preparation but faced significant challenges, especially due to his limited knowledge of English. He initially struggled and failed in his first two attempts. People even mocked him for his English skills, but he remained determined and cleared the exam on his third attempt, securing a position in the IPS.
During the Nagpur riots on Monday, a Muslim mob targeted DCP Niketan Kadam, attacking him with an axe and injuring him. He is currently undergoing treatment for his injuries. The violence, which started over the Aurangzeb tomb issue, resulted in several incidents of stone-pelting, arson, and destruction of public property.
Authorities are working to restore peace in the area, and an investigation is underway to identify and take action against those responsible for the attack.
