The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) started stakeholder consultation regarding changes in the income tax rules and related forms. Suggestions have been sought from all stakeholders regarding this.

The Income Tax Bill, 2025 has been sent to the Select Committee after being introduced in Parliament. The committee is discussing it in detail. In this episode, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) started stakeholder consultation regarding changes in the income tax rules and related forms. Suggestions have been sought from all stakeholders regarding this. After this, they will be collected and sent to the Select Committee for review.

The objective of this initiative is to make tax rules clear and easy, reduce the burden of compliance, remove old and unnecessary rules and make the tax process more simple and transparent for taxpayers. This will make tax compliance easier, taxpayers will be able to understand the rules easily, mistakes will be reduced during filing and administrative burden will also be reduced. For this, a comprehensive review of the Income Tax Act, of 1961 is also being done. Let us tell you that the new Income Tax law will replace the old Income Tax Act, 1961, which has become outdated at present and has become very complicated due to frequent amendments.

Suggestions sought in 4 categories

During the consultation process, suggestions have been sought from stakeholders in 4 categories for the review of rules and forms.

1. Simplification of language - The language of rules and forms should be simple and understandable to common people.

2. Reducing litigation - Measures to reduce legal disputes arising due to ambiguity of rules.

3. Reducing compliance burden - Making the tax filing and compliance process easier for taxpayers.

4. Identification of unnecessary/obsolete rules - Removing rules and forms that are no longer relevant.

Suggestions can be given through this link
