Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, a 210-kilometer-long access-controlled highway, is set to transform travel between the national capital and the scenic city of Dehradun. With 16 entry and exit points and a 76-kilometer service road, this six- to twelve-lane expressway will reduce the travel time from over 6 hours to just 2.5 hours.

It is constructed to enhance connectivity and promote tourism, the project features Asia’s longest elevated wildlife corridor (12 km) and advanced infrastructure like underpasses and elevated roads. This ₹12,000 crore initiative will eventually boost regional economic growth and provide a seamless travel experience.

Key Features of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway

This expressway will reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from over six hours to just 2.5 hours. A special 51 km road to Haridwar will allow travelers to reach there in just two hours from Delhi.

Smart Design
  • It has Asia’s longest elevated wildlife corridor (12 km) to protect animals.
  • Special animal underpasses are built to avoid accidents with wildlife in Rajaji National Park and Shiwalik Reserve Forest.
  • A 19 km stretch from Delhi to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) is fully elevated and designed for fast-moving vehicles.
Separate Roads for Local Traffic

A 76 km service road has been built for local travelers, keeping them separate from expressway traffic. This will make travel safer and smoother.

Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: Entry and Exit Points
  • The expressway has 16 entry and exit points in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
  • Delhi’s key entry points: Akshardham, Geeta Colony, Sonia Vihar, and Vijay Vihar.
  • Exit points: Mandola, Loni, and Usmanpur.
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Phased Development

The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is being built in four phases:

  • Phase 1: A 32 km stretch from Akshardham (Delhi) to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) in Uttar Pradesh. This section includes elevated roads and service roads for local traffic.
  • Phases 2-4: Cover the route through Baghpat, Saharanpur, Shamli, Ghaziabad, and other areas up to Dehradun. These phases will have underpasses, railway overbridges, and bridges to have a smooth connectivity.
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: Impact on Travel Experience

The expressway will most definitely reduce traffic on busy roads like the Delhi-Meerut Expressway by diverting about 30,000 cars every day.

  • Better road access to popular places like Haridwar and Rajaji National Park will attract more tourists.
  • The project will boost real estate development and create new business opportunities in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is a big step in improving India’s roads. With a modern design, shorter travel times, and better connectivity, it will make journeys faster and easier. Whether you're traveling for work or leisure, this expressway will improve your experience for sure.
