Amazon’s decision to lay off 10000 more employees following the November layoff of 18000 workers has drawn big criticism majorly for its use of corporate jargon and AI-driven job cuts.
Complete Circle CIO Gurmeet Chadha wrote on social media platform X about his disapproval with Amazon’s layoffs criticizing the company for what he called ‘corporate drama. He pointed out the terms used by the company like ‘People Experience Head’ and ‘Chief People Officer’ being used for HR leaders and also where employees are referred to as ‘families’ and accused Amazon of hiding behind fancy labels.
Chadha also condemned the increasing use of AI in driving job cuts questioning the justification of layoffs in the name of innovation. He urged companies to prioritize people’s well-being over technological advancements citing Guru Nanak Dev’s philosophy of “Sarbat da bhalla” which means the welfare of all.

Andy Jassy’s Restructuring Plan
According to media reports CEO Andy Jassy has been following a significant restructuring plan at Amazon to reduce middle management and improve operational efficiency. Jassy has already met his goal of cutting 15% of middle managers ahead of the first quarter of 2025.
In a recent Bloomberg interview Jassy defended the restructuring stating that an excessive number of middle managers often leads to inefficiency with too many pre-meetings and approvals. He emphasized on the need of less layers of management which gives employees more freedom.
Amazon’s Return To Office Policy
Despite the focus on streamlining operations Amazon’s mandatory return to office policy was also part of the online debates. While AWS CEO Matt Garman supported the policy arguing that innovation is challenging in remote setups many employees have expressed dissatisfaction.
