The fates of 's two surviving have been confirmed after the pups were rescued from their Santa Fe house of horrors - with their owners . German shepherd Bear and Akita-shepherd mix Nikita were found roaming the house and gardens, while Gene's other dog Zinna was sadly found dead in her crate.
Zinna, a 12-year-old Australian Kelpie mix, had been crated following a recent medical procedure and was found dead in the bathroom in the same room as Betsy. But now Bear and Nikita are sadly going through another ordeal - and have been separated and sent to different homes after being rescued.
Trainer Joey Padilla, who owns Santa Fe Tails, was originally caring for the pups since Hackman and his wife were found dead at home. He told the Daily Mail that one of the dogs has now been dropped off at a home outside of New Mexico, while the other has gone to a local house. Padilla can't share their exact locations, but did confirm they were split up.
He later wrote a statement which declared: "It is with great joy that, with the consent of the estate attorney, I and my staff at Santa Fe Tails have successfully found homes for the Hackmans' surviving dogs, Bear and Nikita. We went through stringent efforts to ensure the best homes were found and the dogs have already begun settling into their new lives.
"We are all thankful for the concern and well wishes Bear and Nikita have received during their transition. It is our hope that everyone continues to wish them the best and honour their privacy so they can continue to heal."
Joey had been close with actor Gene and his wife, who used his training and daycare services - and also employed an animal chiropractor to give them adjustments every few weeks. They also provided financial support for Santa Fe Tails and Padilla's other business - The Alley bowling centre.
