has become a teatime staple since the programme launched in 2009. Just 16 years later it continues to be a fan favourite for viewers. Although it is possible to walk away with a small fortune, some big prizes have been won on the show. Countless show contestants and celebrities have tested their knowledge on the beloved programme.

With at the helm, his former co-star Richard Osman quit the programme in 2022. In case you've never actually seen it, the show involves teams of two having to guess, through a series of rounds, correct but obscure answers to questions, hoping to get a pointless answer in their bid to nab as much cash as possible.

While it's possible to walk away with a small stack of cash - the highest sum of money won on the show was a father and son duo who pocketed an eye-watering jackpot prize.

In March 2013, father and son team David and Jonathan Hammond Williams took home an impressive £24,750.

They bagged the big prize after managing to answer a question related to Enrique Iglesias' song Maybe - although the format of the final round has changed since then.

During this time the pair who made it to the final round would select from a choice of categories, and have to answer one question in that category.

Three months after their victory the show tweaked its final round.

Previously, contestants would select a category (jazz, tennis, film), getting one question in return.

The categories for the final round now offer teams a choice of three questions - and they pick one in attempt to find the pointless answer.

Once a team has won a jackpot on the show, it will be reset to £1000 - although it begins at £2,500 in celebrity versions of the show, when each team's winnings will go to the charity of their choice.

Pointless airs weekdays on BBC One at 5.15pm
