If you travel on national highways, this information is important for you. The National Highway Authority (NHAI) has decided to increase the rates of toll tax across the country. It will affect all those who use the highway regularly or often. All types of vehicles, such as two -wheelers and heavy vehicles, will now have to pay more toll tax than before. The new rates will be applicable from April 1, 2025.
According to NHAI, the rates of toll tax are increased normal every year. This process is based on inflation rate (WPI -wholesale price index) and other financial reasons. This time also the same rule has been implemented.
NHAI Project Director Saurabh Chaurasia said that this is a regular growth and is implemented in April every year. Last year, the Lok Sabha elections could not increase, but the rates were increased in June.
According to recent information, toll tax may increase by about 5 to 10 rupees. However, this growth may vary on different toll plazas.
This increase will be less on some routes, but it will have more impact on those who regularly pass through these toll plazas. This will have a direct impact on transporters and commercial vehicles, as their daily expenses will increase.
This growth will be implemented on many major national highways of Uttar Pradesh including Lucknow. This includes Sitapur Road in Lucknow, Nawabganj Toll Plaza of Kanpur Highway, Ahmedpur of Ayodhya Highway and Raunahi toll plaza, and Dakhina Sheikhpur toll plaza of Rae Bareli road.
New rates will be implemented on all these routes from April. The list of new rates of NHAI in toll plazas will update by the last week of March and these rates will be effective from midnight of 31 March.
The biggest impact of toll tax increase will have the biggest impact on the transport and logistics sector. Trucks, buses and other heavy vehicles will have to pay more fees than before, which can eventually be burdened by common consumers as well.
Experts believe that the increase in freight can also increase the prices of many products in the market. It is possible to change the prices of vegetables, fruits, grains and other essential commodities, especially.
Those who use Lucknow to Sitapur, Ayodhya, Rae Bareli, or Kanpur highway for office or other tasks daily from their car will increase their expenses directly. From everyday point of view, this growth may look modest, but at the end of the month it will be a big expense.
The owner and cab drivers of private vehicles, especially office going to office, will be affected by this growth.
NHAI says that this growth of toll tax is part of the normal process and it is done every year. Project Director Saurabh Chaurasia said that in April every year toll tax rates are increased, so that road construction and maintenance expenses can be compensated.
He said that this time growth is also normal and people do not need to worry. However, he also admitted that this growth in toll tax is also to inflation rate.
