According to The StarLam’s side jobs include social work, group psychotherapy, tutoring, and working for an online clothing store.
The actor shared that he starts his day with a breakfast of two boiled eggs and iced lemon tea, prioritizing savings for transportation.
“All the money I save will be used for transportation fees,” he explained.
Although he managed to buy a car after years of saving, Lam still incurs significant monthly transportation expenses. His car- expenses amount to HK$2,500 (US$322) per month, covering tolls and parking fees at his workplace, where parking alone costs HK$100 for just four hours, he said.
Lam explained that despite the financial burden, he considers a car essential for his job, as actors in Hong Kong are responsible for their own transportation to filming locations.
“When we get calls in the middle of the night, it would cost more than HK$500 to travel to and from my house, so it’s more convenient to have a car,” he explained.
The actor often dines at night markets, budget-friendly restaurants, or tea houses in an effort to save more money. He estimates that his daily transportation and brunch expenses total at least HK$300, not including dinner.
Due to financial strain, Lam is contemplating taking on a sixth part-time job as a dishwasher at a tea house. Expressing his struggles, he remarked: “Life is tough!”
Now 31, Lam made his acting debut in the 2018 drama “Rescue in the Dark.” He holds a degree in Social Work and Social Administration from the University of Hong Kong, graduating in 2017.
