NEET PG 2025 exam: The National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has announced that NEET PG 2025 will be held in two shifts on June 15, 2025. The first shift will be from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, and the second shift will be from 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM. But many medical aspirants are unhappy with this decision.

They have taken to social media to demand a single-shift exam, citing issues with last year’s normalisation process. Medical groups, including the Unified Doctors Front (UDF), have also urged the authorities to reconsider the decision.

NEET PG 2025 in Two Shifts: Candidates Urge Return to Single Shift

NEET Aspirants oppose normalization process
Last year, the NEET PG exam was also held in two shifts, but it faced many problems with the normalization process. Many candidates felt that the way scores were adjusted between the two shifts was unfair and biased.
The normalization process uses mathematical methods like the Z-score method or percentile-based adjustments to make scores fair. However, if one shift is harder than the other, these methods may not work properly and can give an unfair advantage to some candidates. This is why many aspirants are worried about the two-shift system in NEET PG 2025.
A doctor on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) wrote,
"NBEMS has announced NEET PG 2025 in two shifts despite the normalization mess in 2024! Why repeat the same mistake?"
Another aspirant criticized the system, stating,
"The government can conduct 'One Nation, One Election' but cannot conduct 'One Nation, One Exam' for fairness?"
The Unified Doctors Front (UDF) has officially written to the authorities, urging them to conduct NEET PG 2025 in a single shift. Many candidates argue that a one-shift exam would ensure fairness and transparency in the selection process.
A medical aspirant also explained how normalisation is mathematically unfair:
If Shift 1 is tougher (mean score of 120, standard deviation 30) and Shift 2 is easier (mean 140, standard deviation 20), then:
NEET PG 2025 should be conducted in a ‘Single Shift Exam’.
Kindly take necessary action regarding this.@PMOIndia @NMC_IND @NMC_IMA_IND @MoHFW_INDIA @JPNadda @ANI #neetpg2025 #notodoubleshift

This means that despite Shift 1 being more difficult, both candidates get the same normalised rank, which aspirants believe does not reflect true merit.
Why candidates are against the two-shift NEET PG 2025 examMany aspirants believe that conducting NEET PG 2025 in two shifts is unfair and lacks transparency. Their main concerns are about fairness, the normalization process, and the stress it creates. Here’s why medical aspirants are opposing it:
1. Fairness and Transparency IssuesThe difficulty level of the exam may be different in each shift, which can affect candidates' scores and rankings.
2. Problems with the Normalisation ProcessMethods like Z-score and percentile-based adjustments may not work well if one shift is harder than the other.
Last year’s NEET PG had major issues with normalisation, which led to legal challenges and complaints from aspirants.
3. Increased Stress and AnxietyCandidates feel extra pressure because they don't know if their shift will be easier or harder than the other.
4. Practical ConcernsMany believe that conducting NEET PG in one shift is possible and would remove the need for normalisation.
A single-shift exam would ensure that all candidates face the same level of difficulty.
5. Comparison with Other ExamsOther medical entrance exams like NEET UG, AIIMS, and INI-CET are conducted in a single shift.
Candidates question why NEET PG cannot follow the same format.
Will the NEET PG 2025 exam be conducted in a single shift? As the demand for a single-shift exam grows, aspirants are waiting for NBEMS to reconsider its decision. With concerns over fairness, transparency, and merit, many candidates hope that the authorities will listen to their voices and take necessary action.
