Amritsar Crime News: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has successfully apprehended a drug smuggler, seizing heroin valued at approximately ₹55 crores along with firearms. This operation has unveiled an international drug trafficking network.
The arrested individual, identified as Dharminder Singh, also known as Sonu, hails from the village of Harsa Chhina in Amritsar. Alongside the heroin, which weighed 8.08 kilograms, police recovered a .30 caliber pistol and five cartridges, all reportedly delivered via drone from across the border.
DGP Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, revealed that the arrested suspect had connections with drug traffickers based in Pakistan, who utilized drones to drop narcotics into Indian territory through the Ajnala area. Investigations are ongoing to uncover further connections related to this case.
During a press conference, Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar elaborated that the arrest was made based on credible information. The operation was led by DCP Investigation Ravinderpal Singh Sandhu, ADCPI Investigation Navjot Singh, and ACP North Kamaljeet Singh, with Inspector Ranjit Singh Dhaliwal overseeing the police teams. Dharminder was apprehended near the Mental Hospital in Amritsar while waiting to deliver the drug shipment.
The Commissioner indicated that the police have identified another accomplice involved in the drug trafficking operation and are currently working to ascertain the identity of the individual who was supposed to receive the shipment. Efforts are underway to dismantle the entire network of suppliers, dealers, and buyers, as well as to quantify the total amount of narcotics acquired by the arrested individuals.
