Man’s reaction to partner’s financials sparks prenup debate: ‘Embarrassing’

A fierce money debate has kicked off online after a man found out while recording a podcast, that his partner doesn’t want to share her money with him.

The couple, Kino and Edith, recently appeared on an episode of Joe Budden’s podcast and were asked how they felt about a prenuptial agreement, a legally binding document people sign to protect their financial assets in a relationship.

Kino said that he “wouldn’t even consider a prenup” and wanted to work together financially.

“She might have more money than me, too,” he added.

This is where things got awkward.

Edith shared she wanted to protect any money she’s made prior to their relationship starting.

She explained that she was very pro a prenuptial agreement because she’d been married before and wanted her assets to go towards her children.

Edith said that “whatever we get together is different” but whatever assets or money she had prior to their relationship “goes to my kids.”

She added that she didn’t “expect anything” financially from Kino, so she thought it was fair that they kept money earned before the relationship separated.

When she was questioned again about her reasoning, she calmly explained that because she was married before and has assets from that relationship, she doesn’t think it is right to share.

“It belongs to my kids,” she said.

Kino looked visibly taken aback by this stance, and the host joked that he might be “rethinking” everything now.

“What the f**k is she talking about?” he said.

Kino said that he “wouldn’t even consider a prenup” and wanted to work together financially.

Kino also said “no, no” multiple times in disagreement with Edith’s opinion, even squeezing her thigh at one point in shock.

However, Edith held strong on her financial views, repeatedly explaining that she wanted her money to go towards her children and not a fully grown man.

Kino then asked if he “needed” money, if she’d give it to him, and she said, “obviously” if he needed financial support it would be different, but she wanted it to be up to her discretion and wasn’t prepared to combine all their money.

The clip was shared on X and has amassed over 32 million views. An account captioned the clip, “Finding out your girl got more money than you on a podcast is insane”.

Edith shared she wanted to protect any money she’s made prior to their relationship starting.

Online, people were divided over Edith’s disagreement.

Some saw it from the mom’s perspective, while others claimed that if the genders were reversed, her keeping her own money wouldn’t be considered fair.

“If the roles were reversed, certain people would be up in arms if he said she can’t touch what he brought to the marriage beforehand,” one said.

“I am sure if it was the other way around, you wouldn’t feel that way. You will be saying they are together now and whatever he had previously, now belongs to them as one,” someone argued.

Another person branded it a “double standard”, while someone else said: “Sorry, she is 100 percent right.”

One person said they “completely understand” why she wants to protect her children over her new partner.

Another claimed they felt “embarrassed” for Kino when he asked if she would give him money if he needed it.

“Saying but ‘I need it’ when she is repeatedly saying the money is for her kids is insanity,” one person said.
