In a significant move to enhance digital security, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and WhatsApp have launched a joint initiative to tackle online fraud and spam messages. This collaboration aims to protect Indian citizens from cybercrime and strengthen the security framework of Digital India.
WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has extended its security initiative, ‘Stay Safe from Scams’, in partnership with DoT. Under this program, users will be educated on how to identify fraudulent messages, report them, and take precautions to stay safe online.
DoT will utilize the Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP) to provide WhatsApp with real-time data on suspicious fraud activities. This system will help track fraudulent phone numbers and spam messages, preventing scammers from exploiting users.
With a rise in online scams, particularly in banking and UPI transactions, the Indian government is actively working with digital platforms to create a safer cyber ecosystem.
This collaboration between DoT and WhatsApp is expected to play a crucial role in safeguarding Indian citizens from digital fraud. It marks a major step towards making Digital India more secure and resilient against cyber threats.
